Drama Casting & News Baek Jin-hee to claim two brothers’ love in Triangle by girlfriday | April 2, 2014 | 47 Comments A love triangle for Triangle–it only seems fitting, doesn’t it? MBC’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama has confirmed that Baek Jin-hee will be joining the cast as one of the leads, which means she’ll just take up residence in the timeslot that belongs to her most recent drama, Empress Ki. In Triangle she’ll play a woman who has the love of two brothers, played by Kim Jaejoong (Dr. Jin) and Im Shi-wan (The Attorney). The melodrama from the PD-writer team behind Swallow the Sun stars Lee Beom-soo (Prime Minister and I), Jaejoong, and Im Shi-wan as three brothers separated for twenty years, who grow up without any knowledge of each other. Lee Beom-soo is a detective, Jaejoong is a gangster, and Im Shi-wan is adopted into a wealthy family; the drama will be about their complicated reunion as a family. Oh Yeon-soo (IRIS 2) has been cast as Lee Beom-soo’s love interest, a profiler who works alongside him. Kim So-hyun (I Miss You) has been tapped to play her childhood counterpart, while Lee Beom-soo’s younger half is still being cast. There isn’t much detail about Baek Jin-hee’s character other than the love triangle, though I’m sure that’ll be plenty dramatic as it is. I don’t know how they’re going to explain the coincidence of the two younger brothers who just happen to be in love with the same woman. Fate’s a big stinker? Yeah, we’ll go with that. Triangle follows Empress Ki in May. I hope this will role will help her achieve some well deserved success like empress ki (1) Reply 2 ML April 2nd, 2014 at 9:14 AM Can they just stop with the overused love triangles? (10) Reply 2.1 Skye April 2nd, 2014 at 1:41 PM Very funny.. are you trying to abolish kdramas. 80% is built on love triangles, love quadrilaterals and love pentagons. :D (38) Reply 2.1.1 ML April 4th, 2014 at 12:43 AM Love triangles, squares, pentagons and whatevers are quite alright for rom coms but melodramas? Don’t you have enough tears and angst without adding on the ‘It’s complicated’ love lines? It’s so eye roll inducing. (1) Reply 2.2 windsun33 April 2nd, 2014 at 6:26 PM Without love triangles and quadrangles etc. Korean dramas would pretty much be out of business. It would be nice though if someone made a drama without one. Just once… Or even just one episode of a show without one… (1) Reply 2.2.1 Exquisitemelody April 2nd, 2014 at 11:50 PM Actually, I would say Secret Garden had no love triangles or rectangles or any meaningful ones at least. The second leads we’re never real threats and never had real feelings. (5) Reply 3 mudaepo April 2nd, 2014 at 9:22 AM Love triangle between brothers is too classic. Wait until they reveal her real identity: the long-lost child of Lee Bum Soo’s character and his first love! (15) Reply 3.1 harukogirl April 2nd, 2014 at 11:35 AM No, no – THEIR dad killed HER dad in a car crash, which she survived but doesn’t remember due to the trauma, and she is left at an orphanage and leads a difficult life….but is really an heiress XD i could write my own drama at this point….. (35) Reply 3.1.1 Yasmin April 2nd, 2014 at 11:59 AM Lol, I actually believed you for a second there! Just goes to show how outrageous some of these plots can be… (2) Reply 4 ana April 2nd, 2014 at 9:22 AM Hmmm, I don’t know what to think about this drama… (1) Reply 5 marie April 2nd, 2014 at 9:35 AM wow!! happy for her. love her in “Foxy Festival” ” High kick3″ and “Empress Ki”. (0) Reply 6 Sei April 2nd, 2014 at 9:40 AM Ha, this will sure be interesting!~ I was watching a bts in Empress Ki, and Jin Hee said that she wanted to be loved by two men too!! Haha so I guess she got her wish Well, anyways good luck, Jin Hee!~~ (9) Reply 7 ana April 2nd, 2014 at 9:46 AM I mean, Lee Bum Soo, Kim Jae Joong and Im Si Wan brothers??? C’mon…this is too far fetched! (3) Reply 8 ana April 2nd, 2014 at 9:47 AM I’m OK with Baek Jin Hee, she really did amazing in Empress Ki! (3) Reply 9 ana April 2nd, 2014 at 9:54 AM And Oh Yeon Su and Lee Bum Soo sure reminds me of Iris II :)) (0) Reply 10 John April 2nd, 2014 at 9:55 AM She did a good job as the evil wench empress in Empress Ki. Hard to believe that was the same actress that played the meek mild doormat character in I Summon You Gold. (11) Reply 10.1 Waiting April 2nd, 2014 at 12:45 PM Agreed John. I liked her in both but honestly was done with her character in Empress Ki which means she did a great job at being an evil wench. It was difficult to be sympathetic at all. (2) Reply 10.2 kopytko April 2nd, 2014 at 12:47 PM Mild and meek, but she was also one of very few female characters who could handle her good for nothing man and make him a human, at least in recent dramas. Soft power I would say ;) (3) Reply 11 bluesky April 2nd, 2014 at 10:29 AM I like her acting in Empress Ki..She can play bitch and being pitiful or innocent at the same time..But still I need to see how the story will develop..Will check it out since I like Lee Beom Soo too^^ (5) Reply 12 pogo April 2nd, 2014 at 10:33 AM All the women cast so far are good actresses (ok, describing 14 year old Kim So-hyun as a ‘woman’ means using a very loose definition of the term), so I’ll look forward to this even with the love triangle, I liked Baek Jin-hee a lot in High Kick 3 and she’s good in Empress Ki too. And I do like Lee Beom-soo and Im Shi-wan…. (1) Reply 13 Abbie April 2nd, 2014 at 11:11 AM When I saw the title I rolled my eyes. Not because of Baek Jin-hee, but because two brothers will lover her character. There’s just something about that makes me pull back from any show. It’s been done before and I do get tired of seeing the same things over and over. Oh well, I’ll still watch. (2) Reply 14 Orion April 2nd, 2014 at 12:06 PM According to a Sports Seoul exclusive, No Young Hak will be playing 19-year-old Dong Soo (Lee Beom Soo). I am inclined to believe them since they announced Lee’s and Im’s casting about a week before other agencies. I have seen a lot of accurate and fast information from them before. As for the love triangle in ‘Triangle’, being appropriate for the overall theme aside, I hate love triangles. They just turn the woman into an object and prize for the men even more than “normal” romances do in dramas. And they usually make her the kind to lead two guys on, making her seem a jerk and the guys tools. Not to mention her description. Orphan, 4 brothers/sisters, a miner family and working as a casino dealer. Who has a dark life, but happy personality. She sounds like the typical woe is me bubble lead and just… no. No more Candies, dramaland. Then again, this is veering into “sounds so bad it might be hilarious” territory, so let’s see. I was hoping it would not be the 4th Lee Beom Soo work in a row to give me trauma, but who knows. It might sound bad and still work. (8) Reply 14.1 lovepark April 2nd, 2014 at 2:09 PM If what you say is true about the casting, my small hope for a Giant rekindling has been dashed. I absolutely loved Yeo Jin-goo as the young Lee Kang-mo and the transition to Lee Bum-soo’s Kang-mo. Alas, I really need to stop thinking this will be like Giant because so far I fear I agree with your assessment of the whole “sounds so bad it might be hilarious”. The plot seems to be slowly morphing into East of Eden rather than Giant which… let’s just say I would preferred if this drama turns out to be of the quality of the latter. I’ll just hope my low expectations will make the drama-watching experience better. Anyways, I like Noh Young-hak, too. He’s got his own charisma and acting chops. I’d liked to see him cast especially since sometimes the childhood portions turn out better than the main act. (0) Reply 14.1.1 Orion April 2nd, 2014 at 6:17 PM I don’t understand why people think this is in any way comparable to ‘Giant’ because of the lost brothers premise and Lee Beom Soo alone. This is Dramaland and fiction in general. All stories have been done before. So yes, I don’t see why anyone would expect this to be “like Giant”. It’s like wondering if ‘Coffee House’ is like ‘Coffee Prince’ because they have “coffee” in the title. That said, Shin Seung Hwan just got cast as Dong Cheol’s (Jae Joong’s) best friend, so we do get a mini ‘Giant’ reunion in terms of casting. ;) As for Yeo Jin Goo, he does not look quite 19 yet and he is also a big name now. I don’t think a minor role as someone’s younger version is a good enough deal for him by now. (1) Reply 14.1.1.1 windsun33 April 3rd, 2014 at 7:22 AM Not “ALL” stories have been done before. I have yet to see a love triangle involving Godzilla. Not yet… (1) Reply 14.1.1.2 lovepark April 3rd, 2014 at 8:42 AM I agree that Yeo Jin-goo is not going to be taking younger versions for the most part. He’s too much of a hot star right now which is good for him. I think my comment probably had the wrong connotation. I wasn’t expecting a story like Giant but more of a drama with a production and value similar to Giant rather than let’s say another big show set up with long lost brothers, etc like East of Eden. I was just hoping the quality and par would be like Giant which is setting the bar too high (I know) but I can still dream. (0) Reply 15 Lexurite April 2nd, 2014 at 12:10 PM Baek Jin Hee was amazing in Empress Ki. Even though she was a villain and an annoying one, she still manages to make me laugh sometimes and cry and feel bad for her in her sad moments. She really nailed the character. I’m not excited about Triangle but I’ll watch it anyway because I want to see her in another light ! Fighting BJH ! Hope she’ll match well Jaejoong’s and Siwan’s visual ! (6) Reply 15.1 ys April 2nd, 2014 at 6:40 PM Her final scene was amazing. When she locked eyes with her brother I was so happy for her. Then I was like, wait a minute she was hateful evil spoiled wench why am I rooting for her? Good writing, great acting, I miss her character. The new queen does nothing for me. (2) Reply 15.1.1 Lexurite April 3rd, 2014 at 3:52 AM Yes, Tanashiri in her last hours was soo tiny and so loveable. I feel so sad when she wanted to see Maha and SeungNyang refused. T_T Tanashiri was such a pain in an ass and yet BJH make us love/pity her in her worst moments. I’m not fond of the new Empress. She’s just scary and annoying. I don’t know if it’s because Im Joo Eun isn’t that great or because of the writing, though. A little bit of both maybe ? Anyway, can’t wait to see her again, and so fast ! (2) Reply 16 canxi April 2nd, 2014 at 12:19 PM Well, I really have a soft spot just for Baek Jin Hee, I might watch this! (6) Reply 17 Maggiie April 2nd, 2014 at 12:44 PM The long lost sibling plot kinda sort of reminds me of Giant. Which lee beom Soo also did. (1) Reply 18 Maggiie April 2nd, 2014 at 12:47 PM The long lost sibling storyline reminds me of Giant. But I’m looking forward to seeing Lee Beom Soo. Hopefully Jaejoong will do well in this as well because I love him as a singer but his acting was slightly awkward in Protect The Boss. (0) Reply 19 Elfie April 2nd, 2014 at 2:01 PM Yay! More Baek Jin-hee~ She really rocked as Tanasili in Empress Ki. I’ll definitely be looking forward to watching her act alongside Jaejoong in Triangle! (3) Reply 20 Hm April 2nd, 2014 at 2:24 PM I would probably have checked this drama out if it was on 16 episodes… Well, you go girl! (0) Reply 21 Liza April 2nd, 2014 at 5:53 PM She was my favorite part of High Kick Revenge of the Short-Legged so I’m really excited for this. Such a talented and charming actress even when the character she plays isn’t lol. (1) Reply 21.1 korfan April 3rd, 2014 at 12:27 AM She was great in High-Kick. The scene with her and Yoon Kye-sang, when they went out to eat and then something she was wearing fell onto the cooking grill and started smoking! …… I think we all totally died of embarassment along with her character! (0) Reply 22 glowry April 2nd, 2014 at 6:05 PM aww..love her in I Summon You Gold with Park SeoJoon…they’re so cute..and i’m glad she receive more highlight now.. definitely talented… (3) Reply 23 yongki April 2nd, 2014 at 6:46 PM I’m tired seeing Jaejoong in love triangles. He already did that in Protect the Boss and Dr Jin. In both dramas he lost. At least let him win the girl this time LOL. Not sure about the plot. If they limit the drama within the complex situation of the 3 separated brothers and really dig into that, it would be interesting and promising. But if they throw too much drama and too much triangles into the mixture it will be all over the place and cheap and oh soo ordinary. But whatever I guess I’ll still watch it even just for the pleasure to see Jaejoong as a gangsta. That’s HOT LOL (1) Reply 23.1 Elfie April 2nd, 2014 at 6:58 PM I hope he gets the girl too! and I agree gangsta JJ sounds sexy ;) (1) Reply 23.2 yuka5470 April 2nd, 2014 at 9:54 PM my guts telling me that his character will probably end up tragic with him sacrificing for his younger bro and let him take care of BJH’s character. LOL if he is, it will give him record that ALL DRAMAS HE DID, HE NEVER GET THE GIRL! (okay, except protect the boss) but he couldn’t have Choi Kanghee, no? - heaven postman (he’s a spirit) - in ayumi hamasaki’s MV (he died because of sickness) - sunao ni narenakute (he let the girl go for other man) - protect the boss (he lost choi kanghee to jisung) - dr. jin (he lost park minyoung to song seunghoon) :/ JJ is like the second Kim namgil… always died and never get the girl…tsk (5) Reply 23.3 Mrs.Jang Guem Suk April 3rd, 2014 at 5:15 AM Omg I said the same exact thing Lol but ummmmm yea he’s not gonna get the girl 😐 lol sawwwy 😩 (0) Reply 24 crazedlu April 3rd, 2014 at 12:12 AM Liiiike her. Tuning in! (0) Reply 25 endang April 3rd, 2014 at 4:16 AM I’ll stay for kim jaejong :p (0) Reply 26 maldita April 3rd, 2014 at 7:05 AM Lucky girl gets to be liked by both Jaejoong and Siwan. Can I change places with her for one day? LOL (1) Reply 27 Sadie April 4th, 2014 at 3:05 PM is this gonna start fan wars?? that’s two idols in a triangle 0_0 I like both. I’m neutral. Yes, I am. (2) Reply 28 Zaizai April 13th, 2014 at 2:01 AM BJH fighting! Loved her in summon you gold and I’m glad she’s getting the attention she deserves. I’m certain she’ll knock her role out of the park. As for the the knuckleheads she’ll be in a love triangle with… Well have to see (0) Reply Add a Comment Name (required) Mail (will not be published) Website characters available.
