YG Entertainment‘s CEO Yang Hyun Suk drew comparisons between YG’s latest boy group Winner and the upcoming group iKON.
In a recent interview, Yang Hyun Suk confidently stated, “Winner and iKON are two completely different groups.”
He explained, “Winner and iKON are two
different groups. Winner will not have one specific genre, but iKON will
be focusing on hip-hop. So for now, you may feel that iKON has a
stronger identity than Winner.”
“I’m not worried, because Winner and
iKON have two very different directions. Even if they promote during
the same time, there weren’t be many overlaps. Winner will be free from
genres and they’ll show a variety of things, while iKON will paint
interesting pictures in the genre of hip-hop.”
On Winner, who just completed their Japanese tour, Yang Hyun Suk added, “They
have just gotten started. I didn’t debut Winner solely for the domestic
market. They are a group without restrictions. They haven’t even shown
1/10 of what they’re about. They’ve only released one album so far. They
still have so much to show.”
On iKON, who is currently still carrying on their survival program, he commented, “I
know they have a lot of expectations upon them, from when they were
Team B. I think they’re pulling through fine with the original Team B
members at the core. Truthfully, I don’t know how much they’ll be able
to show. I’m expecting them to show everything they’re capable of, in
hip-hop.”
